Traveling can be exhausting! The one thing that can be difficult to find are local favorites. Let me help you get a head start on your agenda by offering you the inside story to our beloved food in the Flathead Valley.

Not very far from the North Forty Resort is a hometown favorite breakfast, lunch and dinner spot called the Night Owl & Backroom Restaurants. This two in one food joint offers breakfast/lunch from morning to afternoon. Then from 4pm-8pm the Backroom opens up for a great dinner and dining experience. Great for families equip with something that everyone will be able to enjoy. From fry bread and ribs to kids chicken tenders. Your family is sure to enjoy this hometown favorite.

Although a visit to Glacier National Park is a top priority for many, be sure to explore Flathead Lake for breathtaking views and excellent dining options. The Tamarack Brewing Company in Lakeside offers tasty selections, including pizza, burgers, fish tacos and more! On the south side of the lake, you’ll find the charming town of Polson, where you can enjoy great coffee and a cozy brunch serving comforting, home-cooked meals. An admired spot in Polson is local Betty’s Diner. Making your way back around the lake you land in Woods Bay where restaurants sit on the water waiting for boats to come through with hungry guests. The Sitting Duck and The Raven both have docking access for boats and street access for passing guests and locals to stop by, have a drink and a good meal while overlooking the lake.

Montana is beautiful but the food makes it worthwhile no matter where you end up!

Join the locals as the winter season approaches

Who said that Montana is only pretty in the summer? During the winter we gather plenty of snow and guests as they wish to witness Montana winter at its finest.

Didn’t make it to Glacier National Park this past summer, that’s okay! Snowshoeing is a great way to see Glacier from a different perspective. Though most trails will not be marked, bring a map with you to guide you!. The park has minimal operations and services so prepare yourself for whatever wild experience you could have, stay warm and stay hydrated. If you wish, Tour Glacier offers guided tours through Glacier National Park for all ages.

Not a fan of downhill skiing? Try out cross country skiing for a change. Go at your own pace and explore the backcountry of our beautiful state. Glacier offers trails for backcountry skiing or exploring any of the four trails carved out of the Flathead National Forest.

Of course if you’re in town and not interested in the cold weather outside then indoor activities such as ice skating, bowling, or watching a show at the theater are all available to you. Whitefish, along with its neighboring towns, are equipped with indoor activities knowing the weather is unpredictable here in the Flathead Valley. Visit the local shops for a taste of Whitefish beauty. Grab a warm drink at Folklore Coffee or a warm crepe at Amazing Crepes.

A Flathead Valley Halloween

With the cold season approaching companies across the Flathead Valley are preparing to host the annual Halloween activities for all ages. Kids being able to trick-or-treat through local neighborhoods and stores, young adults and adults have the option to experience haunted houses and even a Haunted Hayride provided by Clydesdale Outpost.

For an enjoyable time, day or evening, the Sweet Picken's Pumpkin Patch opens up to the public September 21st! Located at 512 Kingfisher Lane, Kalispell MT is providing an array of activities for your family. Ranging from tractor rides, pedal car races, the Trike maze, cow train ride and being able to visit and feed the animals on sight.

The kiddos really love trick-or-treating, but we want to make sure that our adults have just as good of a time. Interested in a good mystery?

Join the Waters Edge Winery and play 'who done it' on October 30th 2024. You may attend and watch or if you have a ticket you're able to partake in dressing up a playing the role of an 1850's character in the murder mystery story!

The Conrad mansion located in Kalispell, Montana will be hosting their annual Ghost Tours on October 29th and October 30th. Enjoy the Conrad ghost stories and strange ordeals as you roam the halls lit up by only candle light for guidance. Looking for something spookier than a ghost story? The Fritz's Corn Maze and Haunted Barn are sure to give you the Halloween thrill that you're looking for! Open 7-10pm Halloween weekend and charges $10 a person to enter the property. As the weather gets colder and the leaves change color, the Flathead Valley starts to settle down for the cold season approaching. The Kalispell Farmers Market is one of the most popular in the valley. Annually meeting at the Flathead Valley Community College, this market has something for everyone.

Running from June to October, the Kalispell Farmers Market remains a beloved destination for local vendors who consistently deliver outstanding offerings. Featuring a diverse array of fresh produce, clothing, furniture, crafts, and pottery, it’s an event you won’t want to miss, especially the season's final market. The Harvest and Holiday Market will conclude the season in style, presenting not just produce but also local meats, art, crafts, and so much more! Thanks to our dedicated local vendors, this cherished tradition continues to thrive, enriching our community for generations as the town evolves.

Since 1974, the market has been a way for locals to connect and cherish the work of their neighbor. In 1976 the market was moved to the Kalispell Center Mall's parking lot and from there it grew in size and continued to bring in vendors among vendors. From then, Flathead Valley Families have continued to make this a generational event for their families as they continue to serve the valley with their gifts

Thanks to your support and the involvement of local communities, the Kalispell Farmers Market has thrived and expanded over the years, not only through an increase in vendors but also in community engagement. Be sure to visit us at Flathead Valley Community College on US HWY 93 every Saturday from 9 AM to 3 PM until October 12th, 2024. Then, join us for the grand finale of the season at the Kalispell Fairgrounds on October 19th, from 9 AM to 3 PM, where we'll celebrate with the Harvest to Holiday Farmers Market and kick off the fall season.

Going to the Sun Road Opens to Non-Ticketed Vehicles

The West entrance of the Glacier National Park is now open without the need to obtain vehicle registration!

Finally, the best part of summer is here. Although it may seem like summer is almost over as the sun starts to rise a little later and the days begin to get shorter, there is still some positives to enjoy. If you didn't have the chance to visit GNP so far this summer because you didn't want to deal with the headache of the vehicle reservation then the time has come to rejoice! As of September 8th the west entrance of the park is no longer requiring a reservation to enjoy the world renowned scenic Going-to-the-Sun road. This time of the year is also a local favorite in terms of visiting GNP, and not just because there is no need to reserve a ticket (although locals will definitely grumble about how back in the day that never was an issue) but more so because the colors of the park start to change and invite you into the cooler season of Fall.

With most of the tourist traffic getting out of the valley, the experience you will get in Glacier in the months of September and October will be much more magical as you will feel less like you're at Disneyland fighting crowds and more in God's country with scenery that is unmatched. So instead of having to wake up hours before the sun comes up to try and beat the crowds, go enjoy the best time to visit Glacier National Park and don't stress about having to register your vehicle beforehand!
